Crafty Saturday: Oz, The Great and Powerful Tee

Well, I finally got around to my DIY tee for the movie premiere of Oz: The Great and Powerful!
So stoked!!

I was inspired by this tote off the Disney Store website:

I would rock that tote, btw.  But I think M would wonder why I needed yet another tote!
Our house is filled with them... with things inside them.
So, that's why, Matt.
So I can put MORE things inside!
HA HA!

Anyway, I decided to make my own shirt after falling in love with the men's version they have at the Disney Store.
(I am not a huge fan of wearing men's t-shirts... But if it goes on clearance, I'll be snatching it up!)

I picked this tee up at Target for $5.60.
Woot!

Supplies Needed:
Tee
Fabric Paint (I used Tulip Soft - Glacier White Matte)
Sponge Brush
Freezer Paper
X-Acto Knife
Piece of Cardboard
Iron

I already had the freezer paper and paint from when we did our Hunger Games shirts last year, so this total project cost me only $5.60.

I do not have a photo step by step for you.
FAIL!
I honestly didn't know how this one would turn out.
I was thinking it would be another big, fat
FAIL!

I'll give you a play by play:
(for more details and photos, check out How About Orange's tutorial)

First Step:
Wash/Dry Tee.
(I seem to never do this...)

Second Step:
While the tee is getting all ready, pick out your design.
You can either print it and trace or free hand it all.

Third Step:
Put the design on your freezer paper (glossy side down)

Fourth Step:
Cut out your design with your X-Acto.

Fifth Step:
Take a break. Grab a snack.  Brew a cup of coffee.
If you are anything like me, X-Acto knives are not your friend and you need a break to remind yourself you are better than such knife.

Fifth Step:
Line up your design onto your shirt with the freezer paper stencil you just created, glossy side down.

Sixth Step:
Once you like where your stencil is placed, iron that baby down!

Seventh Step:
Put the cardboard inside your tee and pull your tee as much as you can and tape/clip/whatever you can get your paws on, to keep it nice and tight.

Eighth Step:
SPONGE PAINT!!!!

Get your spongey friend ready and dip that baby in the fabric paint.
(I usually use a plastic cup to hold my paint... Whatever is lying around my house)
And just dab all parts of the design you want painted.
You may need a few coats.
I recommend waiting at least two hours (or whatever is directed on your paint bottle) before applying another coat.

Ninth Step:
Wait for the shirt to dry COMPLETELY.
(great time to run some of those errands you've been postponing)
Peel off the freezer paper slowly.

Tenth Step:
Wash, inside out.

TA-DA!
You're done!
Wear it proud and show it off!

It's got some boo-boos but I'm still pretty pleased with how it came out :)
I'll probably throw a blazer over it and head out!

And in case you missed it, this is our Hunger Games tees. I'm wearing mine today, actually!
(My man was so scruffy then! :-P)

If you attempt this, send me photos!  I'd love to see all your creations!

Bubble Gum + Wine & DIY Project

“We can’t be lovers because we both have mustaches. But since you’re a lady, and I’m a gentleman, I’ll shave mine off.”
- Jarod Kintz

Top: VS : Similar

Crochet Skirt:  Forever 21, clearanced : Similar style in lace

Leggings:  VS

Boots:  Target,  clearanced

Necklace:  Forever 21

{Pinned it, Did it}

Easy, peasy DIY!

I saw this over at 4 You With Love  and pinned it immediately.

I love my Bath and Body candles... I make them last forever because I can't get myself to toss the pretty jar.  After seeing this simple, easy tutorial, I want to burn all my candles so I can start getting organized!

What You Do:
Burn one of your favorite candles until it's done.  (I had a fresh balsam that was almost finished so I burned that sucker all day, Sunday.  Smelled like Christmas in my house!)

After your candle is all burnt out, let it cool to room temperature and then stick it in your freezer.  I did what she did and kept it in there overnight.

The next day, I took it out and the wax was indeed cracked.  So I took a spoon & knife and scooped it all out.  Scrubbed it nice and clean, and ran hot water over the labels to peel those off.
(I skipped the ziplock bag tip)

Now it's a new storage for my q-tips!

{I will be making her homemade lotion soon... Maybe after I burn another candle so I have a tub to store it in}

Sweet DIY Present : The Coupon Book

It's February 1st!!  So that means we have less than fourteen days until Valentine's Day!

YAY!
What better way to start the month than with a lovie dovie DIY project?
I made this quite a while ago for my husband's birthday...
 {Almost 6 years ago!  Yowza!}
 It's actually an item he requested.  {So sweet!}
It's pretty simple and self explanatory.
I took a photo album (as masculine as I can find) and filled it with coupons and photos of us throughout that time frame.
(Sigh, that seems like ages ago!)
I downloaded a "heart" font and got to work!
(There goes the "masculine photo album")
The hardest part was coming up with coupon ideas.  There's so many ideas all over the internet, but you want to be original as well.
I took it a step further and had the first letter of each coupon spell out a sweet saying. :)
Here's a few photos of the gift:
(This was our very first photo together as a couple, awwwww)
(Can you read that?  Click on the photos to see it better.  "One cooked meal prepared by me... Whatever you want"  This was before I knew how to cook multiple meals - HA, I make myself sound like I'm a chef nowadays!)
(Snooze Together - We like to cuddle)
(No saying "no" for a day - I'm terrible at that!)
(Man, was I tan!!  This is when I faked & baked.  Looking back at this photo makes me miss it...)
(An evening of uninterrupted conversations - Perfect way to put those smart phones down and get lost in each others' eyes! He he)
(I wish I could remember this conversation...  Coupon:  Massage in hot tub)
(This is one of my all time favorite photos of us!  Reminds me of The Notebook.  Coupon:  Evening walk in the rain,  and it's next to a photo of us in the pouring rain!  Get it?  Get it?)
(Evening filled with dancing)
We used to have "club nights" at home... Just the two of us.  And more recently we had Slow Dance Sundays where we would slow dance in our living room on a... wait for it... Sunday!  But it only lasted for like two Sundays... {boo}  I think we need to bring this one back :)

(I forgot my hair was dyed so red!)
 (Some fun fillers)
It's a perfect, sentimental, budget friendly gift that comes from the heart.
 {awww}
I think I have a good twenty or so coupons in there.  I couldn't share them all ;)
He thoroughly enjoyed it and I loved flipping through it today, looking back at the photos :)
Are you planning anything for your significant other?
We agreed we would not be exchanging this year.  Our date to see Warm Bodies is our Valentine's Day gift.
Well, I may have lied.
(Matthew - I hope you are not reading this!)

It's small, I promise.
Like, really small.
I just love celebrating love.
Can't blame me for that...
Right?
Hello...?
