Recap

Well, it's been a few weeks now and I realized I haven't made time for my blog world.

Honestly, it's been a pretty hectic few weeks.  So, let's recap, shall we?

I will squeeze everything into one post to keep you all as updated as I can.

So, I left off with my birthday being only a few days away.

What did I do to celebrate?
Matthew and I went to see The Wizard of Oz 3D in IMAX.  I didn't wear my ruby slippers, like I intended to, but I still showed my support:

Sweater: Croft and Barrow (Kohls), Necklace: Goodwill, Shirt: Out of Print, Jeans: Levis (Kohls),
Dorothy Flower: LLT, 3D Glasses: AMC Theaters

Of course it was a fantastic time!!  I was like a kid on Christmas morning!  I danced, lite up, acted surprised... If people didn't know me, they may have thought it was my first time! ;)

Fast Forward to the first weekend of October:
Matt and I ran away to an enchanted forest filled with s'mores, loved ones, fall colors, beer, dancing, game of pool, potato guns, wildlife, and more!  Exciting, right?  It was!  Every time we get a chance to escape, we always enjoy ourselves to the fullest.

Matt finally got to use his Christmas present!

In between it all, we engaged in fall festivities:
Apple Picking & Pumpkin Farm

More to come later this week!  Hopefully this held some of you over for the time being.

One last note:

Many times this past weekend, I couldn't help but take a moment and reflect on what an amazing family I have and the family I married into.
I am forever grateful for all the love and support I have from them.

They are my whole life!

Date Night : Oz, The Great and Powerful

This was posted on 3/13/13 and has since vanished.
Reposting it now.
(For today's actual post, view it here)

Saw Oz last night!
I'm getting spoiled with these recent date nights we've been having!
It was such a great night and a wonderful movie!
I thoroughly enjoyed it and will probably be seeing it again with my mom.

In case you've been hiding under a rock, Oz, The Great and Powerful is a prequel to the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz.  It follows how Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkel Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs (better known as Oz) arrives to the magical Land of Oz.

It's a great backstory and I thought the casting was dead on!

James Franco pulled off the sleazy, sneaky Oz character perfectly!
As does Mila Kunis, as the beautiful and "heart on the sleeve wearing", Thedora!
And Rachel Weisz as her gorgeous older sister, Evanora.

And although I'm not a huge fan of Michelle Williams, she always seems to deliver.
She is as mesmerizing and as beautiful as Glinda always seems.

China Doll (Joey King) kicks butt (and is totally adorbs!) and who doesn't want their very own Finley (Zach Braff)!

We won't talk about the flying monkeys baboons...
As if you weren't terrified of them from the original, Disney made them even more frightful.
There's a few times I actually jumped.
Ridiculous...

P.S.  I think my husband was a little too excited when he saw that Bruce Campbell was in it.
It went well with his "Army of Darkness" tee he sported last night ;)

As any Oz fan would, you find yourself comparing to the original classic.
Try to avoid that.  I did.
Nothing will ever compare to such a classic,
so why set yourself up for disappointment before even entering the theater?

Although, this movie was pretty fantastic, in my opinion!
(The added humor was a nice bonus!)
If you don't agree, think back to the horrendous, Return to Oz.

Without giving away too much, I'll leave you with this:

The special effects were outstanding, and the storyline was so believable in regards to the original!

And I loved the traces to The Wizard of Oz throughout the film.

(Such as the movie being set in black and white in the beginning!)

 :)

Nice play, Disney!

I cannot wait to see it again!

And there's already a word of a sequel?

**SQUEAL**

Crafty Saturday: Oz, The Great and Powerful Tee

Well, I finally got around to my DIY tee for the movie premiere of Oz: The Great and Powerful!
So stoked!!

I was inspired by this tote off the Disney Store website:

I would rock that tote, btw.  But I think M would wonder why I needed yet another tote!
Our house is filled with them... with things inside them.
So, that's why, Matt.
So I can put MORE things inside!
HA HA!

Anyway, I decided to make my own shirt after falling in love with the men's version they have at the Disney Store.
(I am not a huge fan of wearing men's t-shirts... But if it goes on clearance, I'll be snatching it up!)

I picked this tee up at Target for $5.60.
Woot!

Supplies Needed:
Tee
Fabric Paint (I used Tulip Soft - Glacier White Matte)
Sponge Brush
Freezer Paper
X-Acto Knife
Piece of Cardboard
Iron

I already had the freezer paper and paint from when we did our Hunger Games shirts last year, so this total project cost me only $5.60.

I do not have a photo step by step for you.
FAIL!
I honestly didn't know how this one would turn out.
I was thinking it would be another big, fat
FAIL!

I'll give you a play by play:
(for more details and photos, check out How About Orange's tutorial)

First Step:
Wash/Dry Tee.
(I seem to never do this...)

Second Step:
While the tee is getting all ready, pick out your design.
You can either print it and trace or free hand it all.

Third Step:
Put the design on your freezer paper (glossy side down)

Fourth Step:
Cut out your design with your X-Acto.

Fifth Step:
Take a break. Grab a snack.  Brew a cup of coffee.
If you are anything like me, X-Acto knives are not your friend and you need a break to remind yourself you are better than such knife.

Fifth Step:
Line up your design onto your shirt with the freezer paper stencil you just created, glossy side down.

Sixth Step:
Once you like where your stencil is placed, iron that baby down!

Seventh Step:
Put the cardboard inside your tee and pull your tee as much as you can and tape/clip/whatever you can get your paws on, to keep it nice and tight.

Eighth Step:
SPONGE PAINT!!!!

Get your spongey friend ready and dip that baby in the fabric paint.
(I usually use a plastic cup to hold my paint... Whatever is lying around my house)
And just dab all parts of the design you want painted.
You may need a few coats.
I recommend waiting at least two hours (or whatever is directed on your paint bottle) before applying another coat.

Ninth Step:
Wait for the shirt to dry COMPLETELY.
(great time to run some of those errands you've been postponing)
Peel off the freezer paper slowly.

Tenth Step:
Wash, inside out.

TA-DA!
You're done!
Wear it proud and show it off!

It's got some boo-boos but I'm still pretty pleased with how it came out :)
I'll probably throw a blazer over it and head out!

And in case you missed it, this is our Hunger Games tees. I'm wearing mine today, actually!
(My man was so scruffy then! :-P)

If you attempt this, send me photos!  I'd love to see all your creations!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my!

Sunday was such a relaxing day after a very busy weekend!  Yesterday I woke up very early to get started on my projects for my niece's Hunger Games party...  That's what I get for being a procrastinator. :)  But, more details about that later.  Right now I want to share with you all my new tee!

As some of you may know, I'm quite obsessed with The Wizard of Oz.  I was lucky enough to have an Oz wedding!  (My husband is too good to me!)  My dear friend, Lisa, spotted this on fab.com and I just had to have it.  It's not often that I stumble across "vintage inspired" Wizard of Oz clothing.  And it helped a lot that it had my favorite character plastered on the front. :)  It was my first time ordering through fab.com and I was very pleased.  I even tried searching for this tee elsewhere and it was marked up $45-50.  Ekkk..  I scored it for $35. :)  A little steep for a tee for me, but... Being something I admire and absolutely love, I knew this splurge was acceptable!

We did a little trifting yesterday as well.  And by that, I mean, I went trifting while my husband waited in the car. :)  I scored quite a few things and cannot wait to show you.  Such as the scarf I'm wearing in the last two photos. :)

The rest of the day we curled up on the couch and watched Mission Impossible (my first time viewing.. I know, I know) then caught up on some of our shows and even slow danced in our living room.  I think Sundays will be now called "Slow Dance Sundays". :)

Out of Print "Wizard of Oz" Long Sleeve Tee - fab.com
